Crystal Palace take Chelsea's young Nigerian RB on trial with a view to a permanent move
Published: May 04, 2023Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Crystal Palace have taken German-born Nigerian right-back Derrick Abu on trial with a view to signing him as a free agent.
Abu has entered the last two months of his contract with Chelsea and no talks have taken place between him and the leadership of the club over the extension of his stay at Stamford Bridge.
The 19-year-old has spent the last two weeks or so training with Crystal Palace's development squad as he bids to bag himself a deal.
He has been included in the matchday squad in the last games played by the Eagles in the Premier League 2, against Wolverhampton Wanderers when he was a non-playing substitute and then went the distance against Blackburn Rovers.
Abu improved his chances of getting a deal after starring for Crystal Palace as they defeated Valencia 5-3 on penalties to reach the final of the Premier League International Cup on Wednesday.
Crystal Palace went in front in the 18th minute when Jadan Raymond slotted home from close range after Abu put a ball into the box.
He stepped up to win the game for Palace when he converted Crystal Palace's last kick in the shootout.
Abu has played nonstop at Chelsea since U11 level after joining them from a grassroots club.
