Brighton boss says 2019 Golden Eaglets invitee could have a role to play in push for Europe
Published: May 13, 2023
Brighton & Hove manager Roberto De Zerbi has hinted at giving game time to some of the outstanding Academy players in the season run-in as the Seagulls continue their push for European football.
The Seagulls have a grueling schedule coming up with five games in fourteen days, beginning with the trip to Arsenal on Sunday.
2019 Golden Eaglets invitee Odel Offiah is among four players produced by the Brighton academy who have gotten minutes in the Premier League this season.
After receiving eleven call-ups without tasting action, Offiah finally made his Premier League debut off the bench against Nottingham Forest on April 26.
The unavailability of central defender Adam Webster for the match against Arsenal has increased the chances of Offiah being included in the traveling squad to London.
"We will play without Solly I think for the last five games but we have Ferguson, [Danny] Welbeck, [Deniz] Undav, [Julio] Enciso, Facundo Buonanotte and [Kaoru] Mitoma," De Zerbi said to Brighton's official website.
"But the young players can be important – Cam, Odel (Offiah), Moran. I am lucky because the academy of Brighton is top and I can take some players for the games and for the training sessions.”
After making his Premier League debut, Offiah was a non-playing substitute in back-to-back matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United, and was not called up for the surprise loss to Everton five days ago.
The former Bromley youth teamer joined Brighton on a scholarship deal in 2017.
