Chelsea send scouts to check on 28-goal Nigerian striker
Published: May 15, 2023
Chelsea talent spotters were in the Lombardy region of Italy at the weekend for a scouting mission.
According to Il Mattino, Chelsea representatives were present at the U-Power Stadium - Brianteo to observe Nigeria international Victor Osimhen as reigning Serie A champions Napoli suffered a surprise 2-0 loss to Monza.
Monza took the lead in the 18th minute with a superb counter attacking goal from Dany Mota and Andrea Petagna gave Napoli a mountain to climb when he doubled the advantage at minute 54.
It has been claimed that the Chelsea scouts were unimpressed by the performance of Osimhen, who fired blanks in ninety minutes of action.
The 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup winner, who has mustered 28 goals in all competitions this season, has been strongly linked with a departure from the Diego Maradona Stadium in the summer.
Chelsea are one of the teams trying to lure Osimhen to the Premier League but it appears they are now considering other options.
Inter Milan's World Cup winner with Argentina, Lautaro Martinez has been identified as Mauricio Pochettino's number one target for the striker position.
