Official : Former Bayern Munich youth teamer Cottrell Ezekwem changes club in Germany
Published: May 16, 2023
Former Bayern Munich youth teamer Cottrell Ezekwem has ended his association with SC Verl, the German 3.Liga club announced via their official website on Monday.
The German-born Nigerian central defender has already found a new club ahead of the start of next season, with SC Verl confirming that he will be moving to Regionalliga West club Rot-Weiß Oberhausen.
Ezekwem spent the formative years of his career with the youth teams of Bayern Munich, FC Memmingen and TSV 1860 Munich, where he made the step up to the U23 team.
He joined SC Verl in the third tier after stops at ZFC Meuselwitz and VfB Homberg.
Overall, the 23-year-old made 23 appearances for SC Verl across two seasons and his only goal involvement was against Viktoria Berlin in September 2021, providing an assist in a 3-3 draw.
"Cotti needs more playing time for his further development than last time," SC Verl wrote on their official website.
"That would have been difficult for us in the coming season. We have therefore agreed to go our separate ways from summer and not to extend the expiring contract.
"We wish Cotti all the best for his sporting and personal path."
Cottrell is the older brother of Kimberly Ezekwem who made his Bundesliga debut for SC Freiburg against RB Leipzig on May 8th.
He is the third player signed by Rot-Weiß Oberhausen for the 2023-2024 season.
