Published: May 19, 2023
The Dominican Republic have made a late change to their squad list, two days before their 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup opener against the Flying Eagles.
According to the official website of the Dominican Football Federation, SPAL youth teamer Thomas Jungbauer has been called in to replace defender Sebatián Mañón
The medical bulletin stated that Mañón suffered a relapse in one of the training sessions prior to the start of the World Cup as a result of right lumbosciatic pain that limits his physical sports activities and therefore his performance.
Football's governing body, FIFA approved the change a day to the start of the tournament in Argentina.
Jungbauer has been training with Dominican Republic U20s and was part of the final stage of preparation for the World Cup.
The 17-year-old central defender was a member of the Dominican Republic squad to the CONCACAF U-20 Championship in Honduras, where he featured in matches against El Salvador, Guatemala and United States.
Nigeria will take on the the Dominican Republic at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas, Mendoza on Sunday, May 21, with kickoff scheduled for 1900 hours.
