Bosso excuses AC Milan starlet Eletu from Flying Eagles training ahead of WC opener v DR
Published: May 20, 2023Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that AC Milan starlet Victor Eletu has not yet trained with his Flying Eagles teammates ahead of the national team's FIFA U20 World Cup opener against Dominican Republic.
Eletu was the last player to report for international duty in Mendoza and his arrival was delayed due to club commitments with AC Milan's Primavera squad.
It is understood that Eletu suffered from the usual jet lag having flown across different time zones.
The 18-year-old did not take part in a recovery session on Friday as Nigeria U20 boss Ladan Bosso asked him to rest due to the jet lag from the long hours of flight.
All things being equal, he will be involved in the Flying Eagles' final workout on Saturday before they step out on to the Mendoza Stadium pitch the following day.
Most youth team experts have identified the AC Milan midfielder as the X-factor player in the Nigeria squad heading into the World Cup, and it remains to be seen whether he will start against Dominican Republic after just one training session with the team.
Match fitness wise, Eletu is sharper than most of the players in the Flying Eagles squad considering the fact that he started the last nine matches contested by Milan in the Primavera 1 and went the distance against Hajduk Split in the semifinals of the prestigious UEFA Youth League on April 21.
