Confirmed: Son of former Super Eagles midfielder released by West Brom
Published: May 23, 2023
Following the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season, Championship outfit West Brom have announced their retained and released list through their official website.
At youth team level, the Baggies confirmed that Femi Olofinjana, who has a famous dad, will be leaving The Hawthorns this summer.
Femi is the son of former Super Eagles midfielder Seyi Olofinjana who earned over fifty international caps and represented Wolverhampton Wanderers, Stoke City, Hull City, Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday during his playing days.
Unlike his father, Femi has opted to play international football for Norway and has caps for the Scandinavians at U17 and U18 levels.
A defender by trade, Femi totaled 26 appearances in the U18 Premier League and scored one goal, and also represented West Brom in the FA Youth Cup and U18 Premier League Cup.
He scored his only goal for West Brom against Fulham on the final day of the 2022-2023 U18 Premier League season.
Meanwhile, Nigeria international Semi Ajayi is among the players retained by the Baggies for next season.
Despite spending four months on the sidelines, Ajayi was able to make 25 appearances in all competitions over the course of the 2022-2023 season.
