'We are not afraid' - Flying Eagles captain Bameyi upbeat ahead of showdown against Italy
Published: May 24, 2023
Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi is hoping that a sound, disciplined play and great team tactics will be enough to beat the Italian U-20 team on Wednesday evening.
Nigeria began its quest for a first FIFA U-20 World Cup triumph after the 1989 and 2005 tournaments in Saudi Arabia and the Netherlands where the Flying Eagles finished as runners up.
Ladan Bosso's team defeated Dominican Republic 2-1 in their opening Group D clash and could seal qualification to the knockout stages with a win against the Italians
Bameyi spoke to the NFF Television ahead of the match on Wednesday evening.
"First of all, we should know that it's football and the most disciplined and tactical team will win so we are not afraid," Bameyi said with an air of confidence.
On his expectations after 90 minutes of football played, Bameyi added: "Like I said, it's football and everybody would have to take their chances. The best team will win.
"Football nowadays, the team that plays best wins so I believe we can come out with three points tomorrow."
