Official: Borussia Dortmund sign tri-national defender eligible for Nigeria, Germany, France
Published: May 24, 2023
With a statement on their official website, German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have announced the signing of Felix Irorere on a free transfer.
A central defender by trade, Irorere will strengthen Borussia Dortmund's U23 team coached by Jan Zimmermann in the 2023-2024 season.
The 20-year-old is moving to Borussia Dortmund after ending a two-year association with 2.Bundesliga outfit Karlsruher SC, for whom he made two appearances in the second tier in 2021-2022.
Irorere's appearances at Karlsruher SC were limited by injuries which meant he wasn't table to force his way into the starting lineup, though he received 29 call-ups for first team games during his time at KSC.
Born in Saint-Denis, Irorere is eligible to represent his country of birth France, Germany and Nigeria at international level.
"We're really looking forward to Felix, who will add a new facet to our game simply because of his height," Sporting Director of Borussia Dortmund U23s, Ingo Preuss said to the club's official website.
Standing at 1.95 meters tall, Irorere is likely to be one of the tallest players in the 3.Liga next season.
A product of Eintracht Frankfurt's academy, he scored five goals in 24 appearances for the U19s and two goals in 26 games for the U17s.
