Confirmed: Attacking fullback of Nigerian descent signs pro deal at Blackburn Rovers
Published: May 25, 2023
With a statement on their official website, Championship club Blackburn Rovers have announced that Nigeria-eligible fullback Leo Duru has signed a new contract.
Described as a strong and attacking fullback, Duru has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with Blackburn Rovers, and in doing so followed in the footsteps of academy teammates Charlie Olson, Adam Caddick and Ben Fyles.
The 18-year-old has signed a one-year pro deal through to June 2024, with the option of an additional twelve months.
Duru joined Blackburn Rovers at U10 level and progressed through the ranks before making his competitive debut for the U18s against Leeds United in February 2021 whilst still a schoolboy.
He has forced his way into Blackburn Rovers development squad starting XI, making seven starts for Mike Sheron’s side in the recently concluded season.
Duru was in the Rovers side beaten by Brentford in the final of the Premier League Cup this month.
Born in Manchester, he is eligible to play international football for Nigeria, England and United States, but has no caps to his name.
