Lille plotting move for Gift Orban as replacement for Jonathan David
Published: May 25, 2023
French Ligue 1 club Lille have shown an interest in signing prolific Nigerian attacker Gift Orban in the summer transfer window.
Italian transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his social media page that Lille have made contact with the representative of Orban, who shares the same agent as Super Eagles stars Odion Ighalo and Chidera Ejuke.
Lille have identified Orban as a potential candidate to replace Canada striker, Jonathan David who will likely leave the club this summer after another impressive campaign.
Orban has established himself as one of the most sought-after talents in Europe following his blistering performances for Belgian club, KAA Gent.
The 20-year-old bagged 9 goals and 2 assists in league games to help Gent qualify for the Jupiler Pro League European playoffs.
He has continued his exploits in front of goal in the playoffs, having registered 6 goals in four games including a 16-minute hat-trick against Cercle Brugge.
The former Stabæk forward is also one of the top scorers in the UEFA Europa Conference League this season with 5 goals despite making his first appearance in the competition in February.
Orban has also caught the attention of Manchester United and Chelsea who have reportedly sent scouts to watch him.
