'They need to go for him' - One-time PL top scorer urges Man Utd to sign Osimhen
Published: May 30, 2023
Premier League top scorer for the 2010-2011 season, Dimitar Berbatov has urged his former club, Manchester United to sign Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen.
Manchester United are one of the teams interested in the services of Osimhen who has proven to be one of the most deadly strikers in Europe this season.
The Napoli number 9 is on the verge of making history in Serie A by becoming the first African player to win the Capocannoniere, the Serie A top scorer award which is now known as the Paulo Rossi award since 2021.
The 24-year-old leads the scoring charts with 25 goals, four more than his closest rival, Lautaro Martinez who has notched 21 goals for Inter Milan heading into the final match day of the season.
A striker is a priority for Manchester United heading into the summer transfer window and Osimhen has been identified as one of the strikers who could end their goalscoring woes if the move for their primary target, Harry Kane falls through.
Berbatov while speaking with SPORTbible on the prospect of the Red Devils signing Osimhen said:
"That striker is unbelievable in the way he scores in open play, his runs and the way he finds space, especially inside the penalty box.
"So in my opinion, if United need a striker and I think they need the striker they need to go for him."
Manchester United are reportedly preparing a mega bid for the Super Eagles striker but it remains to be seen whether that will be enough to convince Aurelio De Laurentiis to let his star striker leave for Old Trafford.
