Boavista trigger purchase clause in Bruno Onyemaechi's loan deal
Published: June 05, 2023
2023 Super Eagles invitee Bruno Onyemaechi will not be returning to his parent club Feirense in the summer according to reports.
Portuguese sports daily A Bola has reported that Boavista have activated the option clause to buy Bruno Onyemaechi from Feirense, having paid 500,000 euros.
The 24-year-old was a key member of the Boavista team that finished ninth in the Liga Portugal, making twenty nine starts in the division and was in action for 2,529 minutes.
In addition, he played four games combined in the Allianz Cup and Taça de Portugal, and was involved in three goals (2 goals, 1 assist) in all competitions.
Onyemaechi's contract at Feirense would have expired at the end of the 2023-2024 season.
With a couple of clubs in Portugal and abroad monitoring the situation of Onyemaechi, Boavista have moved fast to secure the services of the fullback.
The Nigerian offers versatility across the back line as he is capable of playing as a left-back, central defender and left wingback.
Onyemaechi was called up by Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro for the glamour friendly against Portugal last November and was also included on the roster for the back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches with Guinea-Bissau, but did not get to make his debut.
