'Not our day' - Outstanding defender Ogwuche reacts to Flying Eagles World Cup exit
Published: June 05, 2023
Trelleborg central defender Abel Ogwuche has taken to social media to share his thoughts on the Flying Eagles' elimination from the 2023 Fifa U20 World Cup in Argentina.
Choi Seokhyun headed home a poorly defended cross in the fifth minute of extra-time to send South Korea to the last four of the World Cup on Sunday evening.
Ogwuche went the distance in every single game played by Nigeria at the World Cup and was unarguably the star performer in defence for Ladan Bosso's team, helping goalkeeper Chijoke Aniagboso post three clean sheets in regulation time.
He showed his tackling ability, interception skills, physicality and aerial prowess during the World Cup.
On the books of Trelleborg since January 2023, he is inevitably set for a move to a bigger club in the coming transfer windows, having recently changed his agents.
Ogwuche noted that Nigeria were unlucky not to beat South Korea, and the statistics back his claim too, with the Flying Eagles having twenty two attempts at goal and the Asians just four.
Writing on Twitter on Monday, Ogwuche stated: "It was not our day, but better days coming. We coming back stronger".
