Confirmed: Schalke 04 will not sign former Celtic defender Jenz on a full deal
Published: June 07, 2023
Schalke 04 will not be signing German-born central defender of Nigerian descent Moritz Jenz on a full deal, the German club announced on Wednesday.
The Berlin native will now return to his parent club Lorient and await further developments ahead of the 2023-2024 campaign.
Jenz joined Schalke 04 in the January transfer window after cutting short his loan spell at Scottish side Celtic, and the transfer would have become permanent if the Royal Blues had avoided relegation.
Schalke 04 bid farewell to the German-Nigerian defender and seven other players namely Schwolow, Jere Uronen, Éder Balanta, Michael Frey, Alex Král, Maya Yoshida, Tom Krauß.
During his time at Schalke 04, Genz was named in the matchday squad on eleven occasions, all of which he started, and was in action for 945 minutes.
He was not called up for matches against Bayer Leverkusen, TSG Hoffenheim, Werder Bremen, FSV Mainz 05, Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig due to a recurring muscle strain.
Jenz turned out for several clubs in Berlin at the beginning of his career, before making the move to Fulham in England, from where he transferred to Swiss side FC Lausanne-Sport in 2020.
