'He's done okay' - Former Aston Villa striker urges Everton to cash in on Iwobi
Published: June 07, 2023
Former Aston Villa striker, Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged Everton to cash in on Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi so they can use the money to get a replacement and fortify other departments in the squad.
Iwobi has one year left in his contract and has been offered a contract extension by Everton and it is said that he will communicate his decision to the club in the coming days.
The midfielder joined the Toffees in 2019 from Arsenal for £35 million and has established himself as an influential player for the club in recent seasons.
The 27-year-old played a vital role in preserving Everton's status in the Premier League, playing all 38 games, registering 2 goals and eight assists.
Agbonlahor opined that the Arsenal youth product has done well for the Merseyside-based club but it is time they moved him on
"I think they should be open to selling Iwobi. He's done ok. He's been there when Everton needed someone," Agbonlahor said to Football Insider.
"He's stood up and shown he can be a decent player. But if it gives them money to get a replacement, I'd sell him on.
"It would boost that transfer budget even more and allow them to move on to better targets and get clear of that relegation zone next season."
The Super Eagles midfielder has played in several roles since moving to Goodison Park. He has made 138 appearances and has notched 9 goals and 16 assists.
He was linked with a move to Fenerbahce in the January transfer window but it remains to be seen whether the Turkish club are still interested in his services.
