'Hopefully I'll earn that special call-up' - Man Utd-reared winger wants to play for Super Eagles
Published: June 11, 2023
Manchester United academy product Tosin Kehinde has said that he is targeting a call-up to the Super Eagles following his move to Hungarian champions Ferencvaros.
Born in Lagos twenty four years ago, Kehinde is eligible to play for Nigeria as well as England where he grew up, but has pledged his international future to the three-time African champions.
Then on the books of Manchester United, the winger visited the Super Eagles Crowne Plaza Hotel in London in March 2018 before a friendly against Serbia and held positive talks with Nigeria Football Federation higher-ups.
A year later, he trained with Nigeria's Olympic National team ahead of an Africa U23 Cup of Nations qualifier but was not dressed for the game against Libya.
Kehinde reckons that his chances of playing international football for Nigeria are more realistic with his move to one of the traditional clubs in Europe, Ferencvaros.
Speaking to Fradi Media, Kehinde remarked: "My important moment was when I signed for Manchester United when I was fourteen, my professional debut that I got in Randers, winning the Danish Cup also with Randers, playing in the Conference League against Leicester City and Galatasaray so they were big parts of my journey so far.
"I'm looking forward to making even bigger memories with Ferencváros. My target is to help the club to reach the next level which is to get back into playing in the Champions League again.
"The Super Eagles? I hope so. Definitely the caliber of club and the level that you need to get the attention of the national team, so hopefully my performances will go to another level and I will earn that special call-up so I can be in two Super Eagles."
Kehinde has signed a three-year contract with Ferencvaros, with a club option for the 2026-2027 season.
