Leganes looking to cash in on onetime Chelsea's longest serving player
Published: June 24, 2023Spanish LaLiga SmartBank club Leganes are looking to cash in on one of their key players Kenneth Omeruo in the summer transfer window.
Spanish daily sports newspaper Diario AS is reporting that Leganes are considering selling the experienced central defender which would allow them to make cash and also reduce the wage bill.
Omeruo was Chelsea's longest-serving player on a first-team contract before he was snapped up by Leganes on a permanent deal in August 2019, which ended his seven-year association with Chelsea.
Per the report from the Spanish newspaper, Omeruo is keen to embark on a new adventure after five seasons at Leganes, including three in the Segunda Division, and believes he can look for options in bigger leagues.
Los Pepineros have already started preparing for life without Omeruo with the signing of Aritz Arambarri, a 25-year-old central defender who played for Real Sociedad last season.
Leganes also intend to sign a right-back to allow Allan Nyom to be moved to the center of defence.
Omeruo has one-year left on his contract at Leganes and it has been suggested that his asking price would be in the region of one million euros since that's the amount left to be amortized, having joined the club for a fee of five million euros four years ago.
In 123 appearances for Leganes, the Super Eagles captain for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau and Sierra Leone has scored five goals and has two assists to his name.
