AS Roma target move for Iheanacho as potential replacement for ex-Chelsea striker
Published: June 26, 2023
AS Roma are targeting a move for Leicester City star Kelechi Iheanacho as a replacement for former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.
According to Italian sports daily La Gazzetta dello Sport, last season's UEFA Europa League finalist has identified Iheanacho as a potential replacement for Abraham who faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines following his injury against Spezia.
The club executives Tiago Pinto and Lina Souloukou have flown to England to conclude discussions over two other summer targets and will make an enquiry about the Nigerian striker.
This is not the first time Iheanacho has been linked with the Giallorossi as he was considered as an alternative to Abraham whom they signed from Chelsea in the summer of 2021.
The Super Eagles forward made 28 appearances for Leicester City in the Premier League last season, scoring 5 goals and scooped the Foxes' Player of the Year award.
The 26-year-old joined the Championship side in the summer of 2017 and has made 206 appearances in all competitions notching 55 and thirty-three assists.
With his contract expiring in 2024 and Leicester City's relegation to the English second-tier division, the club might be open to selling him and the forward might want to leave as well.
