Ex-Tottenham defender insists Dessers would be better than Morelos if signed by Rangers
Published: June 28, 2023
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers will make a good acquisition for Scottish side Rangers this summer and could be a better player than Alfredo Morelos according to the club's former defender Alan Hutton.
Dessers was involved in nine goals (7 goals, 2 assists) over the course of the 2022-2023 season, but his Serie A club, Cremonese were ultimately relegated.
He also made three Belgian Pro League appearances for Racing Genk last term, registering three goals and one assist for them.
On the international stage, he opened his Super Eagles goalscoring account in a 2-1 loss to Mexico last May.
Hutton acknowledged that Rangers will not pay over the odds to sign the £6.5million-rated Nigeria international.
"I am not sure they will," the onetime Tottenham Hotspur man told Football Insider in response to whether the Light Blues will be willing to meet the striker's price tag.
“I think they will only go so far. If we are talking about £6.5m, it is a big investment for Rangers.
“I have seen clips of him and I think he is the profile of player Michael Beale will like. I think he is probably like Morelos but better because he moves better. But there is a cut-off for everybody," Hutton stressed.
"They will have their own valuation and if it goes above that then they will move on to their next target.“
Dessers will not be short of suitors in the transfer window as clubs in Italy and abroad are aware of his exploits also in the Dutch Eredivisie before signing for Cremonese.
