German club make enquiries about signing Southampton striker Onuachu
Published: July 01, 2023German outfit Schalke 04 have made enquiries about signing Southampton's Nigerian International Paul Onuachu.
According to German newspaper Bild, via 90min, the 2. Bundesliga side want the former Genk forward to replace Michael Frey who has returned to Royal Antwerp after the expiration of his loan deal.
Schalke 04 want the FC Ebedei product to join on a loan deal with an option-to-buy clause inserted in the agreement.
The Royal Blues got relegated to the second tier of German football at the end of last season and would be hoping to stage an immediate return to the Bundesliga.
Onuachu left the Jupiler Pro League for the Premier League in January to play for Southampton but struggled for form and game time.
The 29-year-old was brought in by the Saints to resolve their goalscoring woes having proven himself in front of goal in the Belgian topflight.
However, he could not find the back of the net in the 11 Premier League appearances he made for the Hampshire-based club as they got relegated.
The Super Eagles striker has resumed pre-season training with the Championship side amid speculation surrounding his future.
