Ex-Barcelona, Milan and Bayern star runs the rule over 18yo Antwerp striker Udoh
Published: July 02, 2023
Teenage Nigerian striker Victor Udoh has been promoted to first team training at Belgian Pro League champions Royal Antwerp.
Former Barcelona, AC Milan and Bayern Munich defensive midfielder Mark van Bommel has been running the rule over the Nigerian teenager in pre-season.
Mark van Bommel gave Udoh minutes in Royal Antwerp's first pre-season friendly against Challenger Pro League side Lierse on Saturday, bringing him on for the start of the second half.
The 18-year-old attacker had a huge opportunity to open the scoring in the 49th minute but unfortunately could not slot past the Lierse goalkeeper after finding himself in a 1v1 situation.
Udoh joined Antwerp at the end of March and has been elevated to the first team for pre-season preparations on the back of his impressive performances for the youth team.
Prior to joining Royal Antwerp, he turned out for TBC Football Club and Hypebuzz FC in his homeland.
Udoh faces a tough task displacing former Tottenham Hotspur and Fenerbahce star Vincent Janssen as Antwerp's first choice striker should he remain with the first team.
Antwerp have also acquired talented 16-year-old striker of Nigerian descent George Ilenikhena, who scored twenty minutes into his debut against Lierse.
