Burnley identify cheaper alternative to Southampton winger Tella
Published: July 17, 2023
Less than three weeks to the start of the new Championship season, the future of Southampton winger Nathan Tella is still unresolved.
According to journalist Darren Witcoop, the Hale End Academy product is being priced out of a move to Burnley, who have now identified a cheaper alternative to the Stevenage-born Nigerian winger.
The Clarets are eyeing a move for an alternative player who could arrive at zero cost as he is currently a free agent.
Former Southampton star Nathan Redmond has emerged as a transfer target for Burnley, who could offer him a return to the Premier League.
Redmond has totaled 264 appearances in the Premier League whereas Tella, Burnley's primary target, has registered 33 games in the division.
Burnley are looking to sign Tella on a permanent deal after his impressive performances last season helped them seal an immediate return to the Premier League.
Tella joined Burnley last summer on a season-long loan with no option or obligation to buy included in the deal taking him to Turf Moor.
The 24-year-old mustered nineteen goals and five assists in forty five appearances across all competitions during his time at Burnley, and was named to the EFL Championship Team of the Season.
