Manchester United's travelling squad to face Lyon: Oyedele, Shoretire miss out
Published: July 18, 2023
Manchester United have unveiled a 24-man squad for Wednesday's pre-season friendly against Lyon, with young talents of Nigerian descent Maxi Oyedele and Shola Shoretire absent from the list.
The winger and defensive midfielder had been in contention to be named on the roster for the trip to Edinburgh, having trained with the first team this past weekend.
Dutch manager Erik ten Hag named Shoretire and Oyedele in the traveling squad to Norway, where they secured a convincing 2-0 victory against Leeds United last Wednesday.
Shola Shoretire managed to make a 45-minute appearance on the pitch against the Championship side, showcasing his potential, while Maxi Oyedele remained an unused substitute, observing the action from the bench.
Both Anglo-Nigerian youngsters will be hoping to earn spots in the squad for the Tour 2023 in the United States.
As for the upcoming match against Lyon in Edinburgh, the squad will be missing key figures like Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes, as well as other internationals who rejoined training on Saturday.
Instead, they will undergo training at Carrington before embarking on the journey to New York, where they'll look to further prepare for the upcoming season.
