Official: 2021 Allsvenskan top goalscorer Adegbenro released by Beijing Guoan
Published: July 20, 2023
Through official channels, Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoan FC have announced that they have parted company with Nigerian striker Samuel Adegbenro.
Two days ago, The Imperial Guards announced the acquisition of Fabio Abreu and added that the Angolan natonal teamer replaces Adegbenro on the roster for Super League and FA Cup matches this season.
Adegbenro sealed a transfer to Beijing Guoan in April 2022 after winning the top scorer award in the 2021 Allsvenskan season with 17 goals in thirty matches.
However, his transfer to the Chinese club did not work out as planned as the striker could not replicate his performances for IFK Norrköping, having netted just four times from the twenty six games he played in the Chinese Super League.
The 27-year-old represented Prime and Kwara United in his homeland, before spells at Norwegian clubs Viking and Rosenborg.
Of his 82 all-competition appearances for Rosenborg, 27 came in the European competitions comprising five in Europa League qualifiers, sixteen in the Europa League, and six in Champions League qualifiers.
After seventeen matches played in the Chinese Super League, Beijing Guoan are sixth in the standings with twenty five points accumulated.
