Shaun Bartlett's Cape Town Spurs test the waters regarding move for Esperance target Obioma
Published: July 23, 2023Allnigeriasoccer.com has been told that DStv Premiership new boys Cape Town Spurs have tested the waters regarding a move for last season's Nigerian Premier League Golden Boot winner Chukwuemeka Obioma.
Cape Town Spurs are managed by legendary South Africa striker Shaun Bartlett, who represented Charlton Athletic and FC Zürich among others before hanging up his boots.
Intermediaries claiming to represent Cape Town Spurs have been in touch with Obioma's representatives about the possibility of a transfer to The Urban Warriors but nothing is advanced at this stage.
Apart from the interest from Esperance, Obioma is on the radar of other clubs in Tunisia, plus teams based in Libya, Sudan and Egypt.
According to Samuel Ogbah, spokesperson and General Manager of Activity Chambers, Obioma is currently in Nigeria contrary to strange reports in the media that he was in Tunisia to conclude a deal with Esperance.
However, he will soon leave the country as there have been positive talks with a plethora of teams interested in his signature.
The 24-year-old is currently a free agent after terminating his contract with Nigerian champions Enyimba with just cause.
The former Heartland and Abia Warriors man had signed a two-year contract with Enyimba and the second season of his contract was the recently concluded campaign, so he's entitled to join a new club as a Bosman player.
Obioma put himself in the shop window after winning the Golden Boot in the Nigerian top division with sixteen goals to his name in 2022-2023.
