Published: July 27, 2023
Through their official website, Belgian Pro League powerhouse Anderlecht have announced the signing of Chelsea alum of Nigerian descent, Tudor Mendel-Idowu.
The 34-time Belgian champions have pulled off a transfer coup by luring the Cobham product to Brussels as he was heavily courted by a plethora of European clubs including Barcelona.
Mendel-Idowu was offered a new deal by Chelsea but decided to embark on a new chapter in his career.
The England youth teamer of Nigerian descent has put pen to paper on a three-year contract with Anderlecht including an option for an extra season.
The promising young winger joined the Chelsea academy at the age of eight, rising through the youth team ranks to sign a scholarship deal in the summer of 2021.
The talented left-footed attacking player mustered 11 goals in 29 appearances in the U18 Premier League during his time with Chelsea, and also represented the Blues in the UEFA Youth League, FA Youth Cup and Papa Johns Trophy.
In his first words as a player of Anderlecht, Mendel-Idowu told the club's official website: "It’s really exciting to be here. I was fascinated by the sporting project that both Jesper and Mikkel presented.
"I’m looking forward to making my mark at this beautiful club."
Tudor Mendel-Idowu wore the number 77 jersey during his unveiling ceremony on Thursday.
