Former Reggiana defender Olorunleke reveals the best position for Atalanta star Lookman
Published: August 02, 2023
Former Reggiana defender Mathew Olorunleke reckons that Ademola Lookman is best suited to playing as a support striker.
The Super Eagles star flourished last season in his debut season in the Italian top-flight, scoring 13 goals and producing three assists in thirty one appearances.
At one point of the season, the Charlton Athletic academy product was in the running for the Capocannoniere award, a testament to his outstanding form for The Nerazzurri.
The 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup winner with the Young Lions offers versatility as he is comfortable on either wing, as an attacking midfielder, or even in attack as a center forward and second striker.
In an interview with the Italian media, Olorunleke waxed lyrical about Lookman as he spoke about the player's attributes.
"He's a second striker, for me that's the best role. He's a very intelligent boy, he was born in London and in terms of individual technique he's very, very good," he told Tuttomercatoweb.
"With a a team that presses very high up, that plays on speed, finds the ideal terrain to exalt. The coach knows how to use him and in my opinion this will be the year of his consecration".
Lookman was recognized for his imperious displays in 2022-2023, winning the Atalanta Player of the Season award.
