Confirmed: Super Eagles midfielder signs new deal with Brentford
Published: August 07, 2023
Through their official website, Premier League club Brentford have announced that Frank Onyeka has put pen to paper on a new contract with the Bees.
The Super Eagles midfielder has signed a new four-year contract with Brentford, with a club option for an additional 12 months, meaning he will remain at the club until at least the end of the 2026-2027 season.
Onyeka joined Brentford from Danish outfit FC Midtjylland for a then club-record fee of ten million euros, signing a five-year contract.
Since landing at the west Londoners in July 2021, he has registered 47 appearances in all competitions, comprising 41 in the Premier League and six in the Carabao Cup.
Onyeka was in the Brentford side that registered impressive wins against Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City in the Premier League.
The FC Ebedei product has two assists to his name in a Brentford shirt, against Brighton & Hove and Nottingham Forest.
Reacting to Onyeka's new contract, manager Thomas Frank said: "I’m very pleased that Frank has signed a new contract. He has helped the team a lot during our time in the Premier League."
He added: "Frank is a great pressing player. He runs into the half-spaces and in behind, progressing up the pitch.
"He’s a very important player for us and we’re looking forward to continuing the journey with him."
Onyeka has earned 12 caps for the Super Eagles since making his international debut in a friendly against Algeria in October 2020.
