'No one knows' - Crystal Palace boss unsure about future of Chelsea, Man City target Olise
Published: August 08, 2023
Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has provided a fresh update on the future of Michael Olise at the club amid speculation linking the winger with possible moves to Chelsea and Manchester City in the summer transfer window.
The 2021 Super Eagles invitee enjoyed a breakout season in the Premier League in 2022-2023, registering two goals and eleven assists, and his impressive performances have seen him linked with the two Premier League giants.
Olise was voted Crystal Palace's Players' Player of the Year on the back of his outstanding form.
He also won the Moment of the Season award for the 94th minute winner against West Ham United last November, and his injury-time free-kick against Manchester United in January was voted as the Goal of the Season.
Manchester City want to sign Olise to compensate for the departure of Riyad Mahrez to the Saudi Pro League, while Chelsea are always in the market for the best young players in the world.
Hodgson has admitted that he's unsure whether the French-English-Nigerian-Algerian player will remain at Selhurst Park when the transfer window closes for business.
"No one knows really at this moment in time," Hodgson said to Sky Sports.
"If there are clubs who are desperately or seriously preparing a bid and tempting him away then he'll have a decision to make.
"I can only wait and see if there are clubs who are going to come in and make those bids and tempt him away, and in that situation what decision is he going to make, because he also knows that we are really very keen to keep him here."
Signed from Reading in 2021, Olise has three years left on his contract with Crystal Palace.
