Lens and Middlesbrough reach club-to-club agreement for transfer of Arsenal youth product Akpom
Published: August 12, 2023French Ligue 1 club RC Lens have reached an agreement with Championship outfit Middlesbrough for the transfer of Arsenal's Hale End Academy product Chuba Akpom.
According to celebrated French sports daily L'Equipe, Middlesbrough and Lens have agreed to the transfer of striker Chuba Akpom.
The report added that the Super Eagles hopeful will append his signature to a four-year deal, until June 30, 2027.
Middlesbrough have agreed to shred their agreement with Akpom a year before its expiration in exchange for 11 million euros and the deal also includes two million euros in performance-related add-ons.
Lens have pulled off a transfer coup by luring the Nigerian attacker to northern France, securing his services ahead of Sheffield United and Ajax Amsterdam.
Eleven years after receiving his first call-up for a Champions League game during his time at Arsenal, Akpom is in line to make his debut in the competition this season as Lens are guaranteed to participate in the group stage by virtue of finishing second in the Ligue 1 in 2022-2023.
The 27-year-old has yet to make his season debut for Middlesbrough, with an injury he suffered against Coventry City in the Championship playoff keeping him on the sidelines.
Akpom tallied 34 goals in 82 games for Boro, whom he joined in 2020 after spells with Arsenal, Brentford, Coventry City, Nottingham Forest, Hull City, Brighton & Hove Albion, Sint-Truiden and PAOK.
