Dutch Eredivisie powerhouse Ajax Amsterdam have hijacked RC Lens' move to sign Arsenal youth product Chuba Akpom.
According to The Athletic's transfer expert David Ornstein (subscription required),Ajax have reached an agreement to sign the Super Eagles-eligible striker from Middlesbrough.
The Amsterdam-based club have agreed to pay 12 million euros plus 2 million euros in add-ons for the services of the Middlesbrough star.
He has been permitted to travel to the Netherlands for his medical and is expected to pen down a five-year contract.
Akpom is expected to bolster the club's attacking department and contend with Brian Brobbey for a place in the starting XI.
The 27-year-old was the top scorer in the English Championship last season, registering 28 goals and two assists in 38 games and led Boro to the Championship playoff.
Akpom's performance last season was the best in his career for Boro as he struggled for form when he initially arrived at the Riverside Stadium.
He is currently nursing an injury which has seen him miss Middlesbrough's first two games of the season in the Championship.
