Announcement imminent: Real Madrid loan out Super Eagles-eligible winger
Published: August 16, 2023
Real Madrid have loaned out Spanish-born winger of Nigerian descent Marvin Akinlabi Park to La Liga newcomers Unión Deportiva Las Palmas.
President of the Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, Miguel Angel Ramirez Alonso has confirmed that Akinlabi has passed a medical examination and already started training inside the Barranco Seco facilities.
Akinlabi will be joining UD Las Palmas on loan for the remainder of the 2023-2024 season, with a mandatory purchase option included in the deal if La Unión Deportiva retain their La Liga status at the end of the campaign.
Born to a Nigerian father and South Korean mother, Akinlabi has returned to Las Palmas for a second loan spell, having spent the whole of last season at the club.
The 23-year-old helped Las Palmas secure promotion to the top-flight, making 24 appearances in LaLiga SmartBank, scoring once while producing an assist.
In quotes relayed by udlaspalmas.net, Ramirez said: "We already have Marvin Park training in Barranco Seco. We will make it public today.
"He has already undergone a medical check-up and although he is a bit touched because he injured his ankle training in Madrid, and needs to recover, today we will make it official and I imagine he will present himself tomorrow."
Akinlabi has made four career appearances in La Liga for parent club Real Madrid, the last of which came against Granada on May 13, 2021.
