Why Kayode has not been called up for Fiorentina's Conference League playoff tie v Rapid Vienna
Published: August 24, 2023
Italian-Nigerian fullback Michael Kayode will not participate in Fiorentina's Europa Conference League playoff tie against Rapid Vienna at the Allianz Stadion (Wien) on Thursday evening.
Fiorentina manager Vincenzo Italiano has taken twenty four players to the Austrian capital but did not name Kayode in the traveling squad.
According to fiorentina.it, Kayode was left out of the squad due to health issues, with the right-back struggling with flu accompanied by tonsillitis.
The Borgomanero native was impressive on his Serie A debut, helping Fiorentina register a 4-1 road win against Genoa.
It would have been his fourteenth call-up for a first team game assuming he was named in the matchday squad against Rapid Vienna.
Kayode is pushing to establish himself in the Fiorentina first team after his impressive performances for the Primavera squad and with Italy at the 2023 European U19 Championship, where he netted the game-winning goal against Portugal in the showpiece.
The 19-year-old showcased his versatility during the European U19 Championship, playing in three different positions - left-back, right-back and right winger.
Apart from his aerial ability, Kayode is also known for his long throw-in technique.
