Napoli coach Rudi Garcia hails Osimhen for 'world-class gesture' in win against Sassuolo
Published: August 28, 2023
Napoli manager Rudi Garcia has praised Victor Osimhen for his gesture in handling penalty duties to Giacomo Raspadori who had not scored in 8 league games in the Parthenopeans' 2-0 win over Sassuolo played at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Sunday night.
The defending Italian champions had taken the lead through Osimhen's goal from the penalty spot after Matteo Politano was brought down in the penalty area.
They got the chance to double their lead from the penalty spot which should have been taken by Osimhen but the Super Eagles star delegated his duty to Raspadori.
However, the Italy national teamer couldn't convert the ball into the back of the net which kept the score at 1-0.
Garcia was impressed with the kind gesture from Nigeria International which he noted in his post-match conference.
In quotes relayed by Tuttonapoli, the French manager said: "Victor scored and made a world-class gesture by giving the penalty to Raspa.
"I like Giacomo, he can do many roles, he defends, runs and helps the team. Apart from a bit of bad luck and the goalpost, I'm happy with his game. Missing a penalty happens to the greatest of football."
Giovanni Di Lorenzo doubled the lead in the 64th minute and secured the maximum points for the Naples-based side.
Osimhen has now registered 3 league goals in this campaign, which makes him the joint-leading top scorer alongside Olivier Giroud.
