Napoli prioritise tying up Osimhen to new deal over the renewal of Serie A POTY contract
Published: August 31, 2023
With about 48 hours to the close of the summer window, Napoli have reportedly prioritized the contract renewal of Victor Osimhen despite their desire to extend the contracts of two key players.
The Partenopei are negotiating a contract extension with the Nigerian striker in a bid to fend off interest from other top clubs who are following his contract situation.
It was gathered that Napoli offered Osimhen improved wages and proposed a release clause to ensure he remains at the club beyond the summer but an agreement between both have not been reached.
Napoli, according to Napoli Magazine via La Gazzetta dello Sport will prioritize the renewal of Osimhen before extending the contract of 2022-2023 Serie A Player of the Year, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
President Aurelio De Laurentiis, despite the arrival of Kvaratskhelia's agent, Mamuka Jugeli in Naples will first conclude negotiations with Osimhen and Zieliński before proceeding contract talk with the Georgian.
As the close of the summer window draws closer, Napoli hope to extend the contract of the Nigerian striker and keep him beyond his current contract which runs until June 30, 2025.
Osimhen, after an impressive 2022/2023 campaign, started the new season on a high, scoring 3 goals in the opening two games against Frosinone and Sassuolo.
