Musa scores 91st minute penalty to seal comeback win for Manchester United youth team
Published: September 16, 2023
Flying Eagles-eligible striker Victor Musa opened his goalscoring account for the season as Manchester United came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest in an U18 Premier League clash at Trafford Training Centre on Saturday afternoon.
The Spanish born player fired blanks in his first three games of the new season - against Middlesbrough and Stoke City in the U18 Premier League, and Reading in the U18 Premier League Cup.
A minute to the end of the first half, Conor Brown converted from the spot to give Nottingham Forest the lead after Danny Anisjko was brought down in the box by United goalkeeper Tom Myles.
Despite being reduced to ten men, the young Red Devils equalized through Jack Kingdon, who poked the ball home at the far post after a lovely weighted pass from Finley McAllister.
Just as it seemed both teams would share the spoils, the referee awarded a penalty in stoppage time when substitute Jim Thwaites was bundled over in the area.
Musa kept his nerve and with a left-footed effort slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to give United a 2-1 lead in the 91st minute.
The 17-year-old has now scored seven goals in twenty four appearances for Manchester United U18 team since making his debut against Nottingham Forest on August 20, 2022 in his final season as a schoolboy.
