'Like Haaland, he's one who lives for goals' - Peseiro rates Osimhen among the world's best 5 strikers
Published: September 20, 2023
Super Eagles coach José Peseiro has likened Victor Osimhen to Manchester City ace Erling Haaland who has arguably been the best striker in Europe in the last 12 months.
Osimhen and Haaland played vital roles for Napoli and Manchester City respectively in their Premier League and Serie A triumphs last season.
The Nigerian striker was the top scorer in the Serie A with 26 goals and bagged the Serie A Best Striker award while his Norwegian counterpart won the Premier League Golden Boot, Player of the Season and Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year among other awards.
It is unsurprising that the duo have been nominated for the Ballon d'Or alongside 28 others and are also in contention for the Best FIFA Men's Player of the Year prize.
Peseiro believes Osimhen is one of the best strikers in the world and that he is as hungry as Haaland for goals.
"I don't like rankings, let's say he's in the group of the best 4-5 in the world. Like Haaland, he is one who lives for the goals," he told Gazzetta dello Sport via IlNapolista
The 24-year-old has also proven his proficiency in front of goal since the former Braga manager took charge of the Super Eagles last year mustering 10 goals and 2 assists in six appearances under him.
He is expected to lead the quest for Nigeria's fourth AFCON title next year in Ivory Coast.
