'In these moments don't need such attitudes' - Napoli captain reacts to Osimhen's touchline row with Garcia
Published: September 25, 2023
Victor Osimhen has now gone goalless n four matches for Napoli after firing blanks in their goalless draw with Joshua Zirkzee's Bologna at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on Sunday evening.
Just like against Sporting de Braga in the Champions League, Osimhen could have ended his goal drought but struck the woodwork in the opening minutes of the contest.
In the tenth minute, the Nigeria international had an opportunity to break the deadlock but his header went off target.
Seventeen minutes into the second half, the Napoli number 9 saw his snap shot easily gathered by Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski, before hitting a spot kick wide in the 72nd minute.
With four minutes left on the clock, Napoli coach Rudi Garcia substituted Osimhen for Giovanni Simeone, which triggered an angry reaction from the Nigeria international.
When leaving the pitch, the Nigeria national teamer was visibly angry and as he made his way to the bench, he threw away his jacket.
Osimhen was spotted explaining to Garcia that it was necessary to play with two center forwards, rather than taking him off for Simeone.
Reacting to the incident, Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo told DAZN, via Calcionapoli1926: "We manage certain episodes within the locker room. These become more evident when things go wrong.
"In these moments don't need such attitudes, we need to be united and focused on the objective. We will talk to the group and the coach to resolve it.
"We don't like to be behind in the championship, even if we are only at the beginning."
Osimhen has logged 430 minutes in all competitions without finding the net, his last goal at club level was in the 16th minute of Napoli's 2-0 win against US Sassuolo on August 27.
