Osimhen named in Napoli's provisional squad v Udinese amid ongoing feud with Serie A champions
Published: September 27, 2023
Victor Osimhen is theoretically in contention to take to the pitch in Wednesday evening's Italian Serie A meeting between Napoli and Udinese at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Naples.
This normally should not be a subject of discussion but the relationship between Osimhen and Napoli has turned sour in recent days after Napoli posted a TikTok video mocking their most expensive acquisition for missing a penalty during the second half of their last Serie A game at Bologna.
The Nigeria national teamer was involved in a touchline row with Napoli manager Rudi Garcia after he was substituted in the goalless draw with The Rossoblù.
Osimhen criticized the decision of the French football tactician to substitute him for Giovanni Simeone, instead of playing with two center forwards with Napoli searching for the winning goal.
Garcia has summoned twenty-four players for the visit of the Bianconeri with Osimhen included among the strikers.
Giovanni Simeone, Matteo Politano, Alessio Zerbin, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Giacomo Raspadori are the other forwards named in Napoli's provisional squad.
Osimhen's form in front of goal is becoming a concern for Napoli since the beginning of September with the number 9 failing to score in four games in a row across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Udinese manager Andrea Sottil has taken a 24-man squad to Naples including Super Eagles duo Maduka Okoye and Isaac Success, and Republic of Ireland youth teamer of Nigerian descent, Festy Ebosele.
