'He has been amazing' - Eintracht Frankfurt icon Okocha waxes lyrical about Bayer striker Boniface
Published: September 29, 2023Eintracht Frankfurt icon Jay-Jay Okocha has hailed Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface for his brilliant start to life in the German Bundesliga.
The Nigerian forward has been one of the best players in the German top-tier division this season, leading the attack remarkably for Bayer Leverkusen.
Only Serhou Guirassy with 10 goals, and Harry Kane, who has 7, have more league goals than the Super Eagles forward since the inception of the league last month.
Okocha has waxed lyrical about the 22-year-old and hopes that Nigeria can get the best out of him and the other attacking talents
"He's [Boniface] been amazing. It's always great to see one of our own doing well," Okocha told LiveScore.
"He gives us hope. It shows we are not short of talent. We [Nigeria] just need to get our act together!
"It is an exciting time for Nigerian football and the good thing is their ages, some of them haven't even hit their prime yet.
"It's now about finding a way to getting the best out of them when they come to play for Nigeria."
Boniface will be seeking to equal and surpass Bayer Leverkusen's long-standing record for most goals scored after 6 Bundesliga games when they face Mainz O5 at the Mewa Arena tomorrow.
The current holder of the record is Patrick Helmes, who netted 7 times after six matchdays in the 2008/2009 season.
The former Royale Union Saint-Gilloise striker has featured in 7 matches across all competitions for Xabi Alonso's side this term and has 8 goals to his name.
