Three clean sheets in four matches: Arsenal-owned GK Okonkwo becomes a wall for Wrexham
Published: October 08, 2023
Hale End Academy graduate Arthur Okonkwo has been catching the eye at Wrexham after joining the League Two club on deadline day from parent club Arsenal, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Super Eagles-eligible goalkeeper has forced his way into Wrexham's starting lineup having started their last three games in the English fourth tier.
With Okonkwo in the starting lineup, the Red Dragons are unbeaten in their last three games in the League Two - a run that has seen them rise to seventh in the standings.
The 22-year-old was crucial for Wrexham in a 1-0 road win against Crawley Town on Saturday, making a big save to deny Danilo Orsi an equalizer a minute after the visitors took the lead through Ollie Palmer.
Okonkwo's latest clean sheet against Crawley Town takes his tally for the season to three in four matches since his loan move to Wrexham.
The former England underage international has been beaten by only three players, namely Mickey Demetriou, Chris Long and Shilow Tracey, and he conceded the three goals in the antepenultimate round of matches in the League Two.
Okonkwo kept ten clean sheets in 26 matches during a loan spell at Crewe Alexandra in the first half of last season and conceded 19 goals across eighteen matches in the Austrian Bundesliga and OFB Cup in the second half of last season at Sturm Graz.
