Nottingham Forest boss reveals Liverpool old boy Awoniyi could return to training ahead of Anfield trip
Published: October 19, 2023
Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper has delivered an injury update on Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
The 26-year-old picked up an injury in Forest's 1-1 draw with Brentford on matchday 7 of the Premier League played at the City Ground.
The injury made Awoniyi miss the barren draw with Crystal Palace before the international break and also the Super Eagles friendly matches against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique respectively.
According to Cooper, the Liverpool-reared striker could return to training ahead of Forest's trip to Anfield next Sunday.
The Welsh-born tactician during his pre-match duties ahead of his side's meeting with Luton Town on Saturday revealed the latest update regarding the fitness of the Nigeria international.
In quotes relayed by Nottinghamshirelive, he said: "Taiwo is progressing well. He's not far off some training, so let's see how the next week goes, going into the game after Saturday."
Cooper will be hoping to have his star striker back on the pitch as soon as possible as Forest seek to regain momentum having failed to win a league game since beating Chelsea last month.
Super Eagles right back Ola Aina is also yet to recover from his muscle injury and has missed Forest's last two league games.
