Supersub: Adebayo's injury-time goal salvages point for Luton Town in 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest
Published: October 21, 2023
An injury-time goal from Super Eagles-eligible forward Elijah Adebayo robbed Nottingham Forest of a win at the City Ground as Luton Town came back from two goals down to earn a point.
Adebayo was among three English-born players of Nigerian descent named on the bench, the others being former Golden Eaglets invitee Gabriel Osho and Forest's Super Eagles defender Ola Aina.
Having recovered from injury, the 25-year-old Osho was back in the matchday squad for the first time since the playoff final win at Wembley in May.
Nottingham Forest got off to a fine start in the second half as Chris Wood opened the scoring with a confident finish in the 48th minute and netted again at minute 76 to give Steve Cooper's side a two-goal advantage.
The game was far from over though as Lagos-born Republic of Ireland international Chiedozie Ogbene drove home from close range after the Forest defenders struggled to clear a ball into the box in the 83rd minute.
Introduced off the bench in the 72nd minute, Adebayo leveled the score in the second minute of stoppage time when he chested down the ball and fired an unstoppable shot into the net.
Adebayo has now scored two goals as a substitute in his last three Premier League games for the Hatters after firing blanks in his first six games in the top flight.
Nottingham Forest thought they had netted a dramatic winner but Chris Wood's effort was ruled out for offside.
The draw means Luton Town remain out of the relegation zone with five points from nine games, while Nottingham Forest occupy the fifteenth position with ten points.
