'I like to influence the game' - Super Eagles playmaker Iwobi admits he fancies midfield role
Published: October 30, 2023
Super Eagles playmaker Alex Iwobi has revealed why he loves playing in the midfield.
Besides being able to play in the middle of the park, the Hale End Product is capable of playing as a right or left winger but has previously declared that he loves to play in the midfield.
Undoubtedly, the 27-year-old best performances for club and country have been while he was deployed as a midfielder.
He won the Everton Players' Player of the Year for the last campaign playing in that position for most of the season as he recorded the second-most goal involvements for the club in the Premier League.
The Nigerian midfielder has revealed the reason behind liking to play in the middle of the park.
"I do enjoy playing in the middle," Iwobi said to The Standard.
"I feel like I get the ball a lot more. I like to influence the game as much as I can for the team."
Iwobi lasted for 90 minutes during Fulham's encounter with Brighton at Amex Stadium over the weekend which was the first time he did that in the Premier League since his arrival at Craven Cottage in the summer window.
He will be hoping that he has done enough to convince manager Marco Silva to give him a starting role for the upcoming games.
