'I haven't heard anything' - Lecce's Danish-born star insists no contact with NFF amid links with Super Eagles
Published: November 15, 2023
Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu has reacted to claims made by his Nigerian agent, Kingsley Ogbodo that he has been offered a place in the Super Eagles team ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The left-back is provisionally cap-tied to his country of birth Denmark but remains eligible to play international football for the Nigeria set-up through his Nigerian parents.
The 19-year-old stressed that he has not been contacted by the Nigeria Football Federation about playing for the Super Eagles and his focus is on Denmark's U21 national team
The FC Nordsjælland academy product is currently on international duty with Denmark U21s ahead of a friendly with Morocco (Nov 16) and European U21 Championship qualifier against Wales (Nov 20).
Reacting to reports linking him with the Super Eagles, Dorgu told bold.dk: "I have no comments on that. Right now my focus is just on the U21s and on having two good matches."
Dorgu's performances at Lecce is being monitored by Denmark's head coach Kasper Hjulmand, who has labeled the fullback an exciting player.
"Of course it's great that the national coach mentions me, but that's not exactly where my goal is right now. Now I'm with U21, and I'm just thinking about having two good games here," Dorgu said.
Quizzed on representing Denmark's senior team in the future, he replied: "I guess it's everyone's dream to be able to represent the country you're from, so it will be big."
When asked if he has been contacted by the Nigeria Football Federation before, Dorgu said: " I haven't heard anything about that, no".
Dorgu has been involved in every single game played by Lecce so far this season - fourteen in total.
