Trabzonspor set to open talks with Southampton over permanent signing of Super Eagles striker
Published: November 17, 2023
Trabzonspor are reportedly preparing to open talks with EFL Championship outfit Southampton over the permanent signing of Super Eagles star Paul Onuachu.
Onuachu joined Southampton in the January transfer window and was shipped out on a season-long loan to Trabzonspor in September, with the Nigerian center forward failing to impress in the second half of last season.
The 2.01-meter striker has shown that he is back to form since transferring to Trabzonspor, registering six goals and one assist in eight outings in the Super Lig.
According to various reports in the Turkish press including NTV, Trabzonspor are preparing to negotiate with Southampton to add a buyout clause to the contract of Onuachu.
Southampton wanted to include an option to buy of more than 15 million euros into the loan deal taking the Nigeria international to Turkey but Trabzonspor did not accept the request.
As per the report, the Turkish club want to negotiate a reduced fee for the former Racing Genk center forward.
Onuachu is seemingly not in the plans of Saints boss Russell Martin, given that he was starved of game time before heading to Trabzonspor, having made one appearance from a possible six in all competitions
The FC Ebedei product has a contract with Southampton until the end of the 2025-2026 season.
