The FA to explore options of luring Arsenal teenage sensation to represent England over Nigeria, Denmark
Published: November 21, 2023
Arsenal teenage sensation Chidozie Obi-Martin has been in the spotlight over the last three days after scoring a remarkable ten goals in an U16 game against Liverpool on Saturday.
Born in Glostrup to a Danish mother and Nigerian father, Chido-Obi is eligible to play international football for three countries namely Nigeria, Denmark and England.
Obi-Martin has represented his country of birth Denmark and England at youth level but has no caps for Nigeria's youth teams.
At the moment, the Danish Football Association (DBU) are ahead of their two rivals in the race for the services of the 15-year-old as he became provisionally cap-tied to the Scandinavian nation on October 11, 2023 when he started against Lithuania in a European U17 Championship qualifier.
According to The Daily Mail UK, the English Football Association are to explore options of luring Arsenal wonderkid Obi-Martin, who currently plays for Denmark U17s, back to representing England.
According to Fifa rules, tri-national center forward Obi-Martin can switch allegiance to either England or Nigeria provided that he has not played a competitive game for Denmark's senior team and he has passports for the two other countries.
England have been keeping tabs on Obi-Martin and his stunning ten-goal display against Liverpool has aroused the interest of the Football Association.
The Football Association beat their Nigerian counterparts to the services of Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka and Chelsea's Cobham products Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham.
On the other hand, Nigeria managed to secure the international future of Hale End product Alex Iwobi and Chelsea alum Ola Aina who previously represented England's Young Lions.
