One more goal: George nears double digits after scoring for Chelsea youth against Blackburn Rovers
Published: November 25, 2023
England U18 international of Nigerian descent, Tyrique George has already scored more goals than he managed the whole of last season, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The talented winger was among the scorers as a Chelsea U18 team coached by Nigerian football tactician Hassan Sulaiman defeated Blackburn Rovers 3-1 in a Premier League Cup match on Saturday afternoon to take his tally this campaign to nine in all competitions.
George was left out of the England U17 squad to the ongoing 2023 Fifa U17 World Cup despite his fine start to the season.
Against Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea were two goals up at the interval courtesy of Jimmy-Jay Morgan's early opener and Atcheson's own goal.
With ten minutes left on the clock, George fired into the top corner to put the game out of the reach of Blackburn Rovers.
A breakdown of his goals reveals that four were scored in the U18 Premier League, three in the U21 Premier League Cup and one each in the U18 Premier League Cup and Premier League International Cup.
George would be chasing the 10-goal milestone if he is involved against Reading in the U18 Premier League next Saturday.
Other players of Nigerian descent on parade for Chelsea at the Cobham Training Center included fullback Somto Boniface and Chinoso Chibueze, who replaced George in the 81st minute.
With three wins in as many matches, Chelsea are through to the quarterfinals of the U18 Premier League Cup.
