One of the best goals seen in history of Reale Arena: Sadiq ends his 449-day goal drought with long-range beauty
Published: November 26, 2023
Umar Sadiq's wait for his fourth career goal in La Liga came to end on Sunday, November 26 as Real Sociedad defeated Sevilla 2-1 at Reale Arena (Donostia-San Sebastián) to climb to fifth in the provisional standings with 25 points from fourteen games, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
You have to go back to September 3, 2022 to find the last time the Nigeria international found the net in the Spanish top flight before the visit of Sevilla to the Basque Country.
Real Sociedad broke the deadlock through an own goal from Dmitrović before Sadiq doubled the advantage midway through the first half with a trademark long-range strike, ending his 449-day goal drought in the process.
According to the official website of Real Sociedad, Sadiq's long-range beauty is 'one of the best goals seen in history of Reale Arena'.
The 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medalist ended a barren run of twelve consecutive La Liga matches without finding the back of the net after getting on the scoresheet in the 22nd minute against the Rojiblancos.
Overall, Sadiq logged 444 minutes spread across sixteen matches before ending his goal drought, comprising fourteen in La Liga and one apiece in the UEFA Champions League and Copa del Rey.
The former AS Roma and Rangers man started his La Liga career in blistering form, scoring three goals in his first four games in the division but a career threatening injury that sidelined him for eleven months ruined his progress.
Nigeria manager Jose Peseiro has kept faith in Sadiq by naming the lanky center forward on the roster for the October and November internationals.
